What’s changingIn January 2025, we announced our plan to bring premium AI features directly to our Business and Enterprise offerings, helping our customers and their users boost productivity, creativity, and innovation, transforming how they work. We also stopped charging for Gemini add-ons that you may have purchased previously for your Business and Enterprise offerings after January 31, 2025.This week, as part of a shift in our offerings, we will begin removing references to the Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, AI Meetings & Messages, and AI Security add-ons from the Subscriptions page within the Admin console (Menu > Billing > Subscriptions). This change will apply to customers whose Workspace edition now includes all functionality previously available with these add-ons. For example, if you had a Workspace Business Standard or Enterprise Standard subscription and a Gemini Business add-on, the add-on is no longer needed since the applicable AI features are now included in your Workspace subscription.Important note: There will be no disruptions in service or changes in feature availability with this change. This change will have no effect on your bill.

Getting started

Admins: No action is needed – we will make these updates to the Subscriptions page automatically.
End users: There is no end user impact or action required.

Rollout pace

This update will begin taking effect starting June 25, 2025 and may take several weeks to rollout for affected customers.

What’s changing Last year, we made updates to the Google Chat integration with GitHub, a cloud-based platform that enables users to store, share and collaborate with others to write code. Today, we’re excited to announce additional updates and functionality that improve upon the overall experience using the GitHub app for Google Chat.
Starting today, users will have the ability to:

Choose from additional controls for repository notification subscriptions, allowing users to set notifications according to their needs. For example, users can subscribe only to notifications when a deployment fails, or set notifications for Pull Requests assigned only to a particular individual.
Create scheduled reminders, providing a new way for teams to stay on top of open pull requests.
Set personal reminders to help keep track of pull requests that require review.

What’s changing Earlier this year, we introduced the ability for users to easily summarize Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets files shared within a Google Chat conversation. Today, we’re excited to expand this feature to PDF, Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CSV, txt, and zip files shared as Drive links in Chat.
Simply click the new “Summarize this file” button that appears within the respective file preview card in the conversation, and Gemini will summarize the file so you can get a quick overview without having to leave Chat.

What’s changingCurrently, you can utilize Gemini in Google Sheets to generate charts and valuable insights, and today we’re excited to bring AI directly into the cells of your spreadsheet with the power of AI function.
From a cell, you can now input a specific prompt describing what you would like to do and an optional data range, and Gemini can do the following:

Use relevant information from your spreadsheet to generate text that is tailored to your specific data.
Summarize information by analyzing the content of your spreadsheet and highlighting the most important parts, so you can quickly understand your data.
Categorize your data into meaningful groups, so you can easily detect patterns, such as user sentiment.

Here are some examples of how you’d use this feature:

Text generation:

=AI(“Write a formal ad copy for the product. Cater copy to the objective and target audience”, A2:C2)
=AI("Create an email to the reviewer addressing specific items in their reviews.", A2:G2)

Summarization:

=AI("For the customer, write a one sentence summary of their feedback.", A2:D2)
=AI("You are the owner of a pet sitting business. Write a 2 sentence summary for the customer about their pet’s last stay. Be a little funny.", F2)

Categorization:

=AI("Categorize the customer inquiry as a compliment, exchange request, or return request.",C2)
=AI("Perform sentiment analysis on the emails sent by the customers to the barbershop.", C2)

If you want to refer to two ranges that aren’t contiguous, you can use concatenation in the prompt. Here are a few examples:

=AI("Write a review of the hot sauce "&A2&" using only the ingredients "&D2&" and the popularity "&E2&".", A2:D2)
=AI("Find the major themes in the customer feedback of "&B2&" using the rating "&C2&" and comments: "&D2&".")

Why you’d use it Now you can create hundreds of rows of data quickly to do things like categorize user feedback requests or write personalized emails, all without being an expert in data or spreadsheets. Regardless of your data needs, with instant access to Gemini from any cell in your Sheet, the Al function helps you get work done faster.
Additional details

We currently support text-based responses for text generation, summarization, categorization, and sentiment analysis queries. While the input information is optional, we recommend using it for optimal results.
After generating, if an explicitly referenced cell or the prompt is updated, the cell shows an out-of-sync state, and keeps the previous output for reference.
To refresh a cell, you can select one or multiple cells and press “refresh and insert.”
You can select multiple cells with AI functions and generate outputs; however, only the first 200 selected cells with AI functions will be generated. You can wait for the generation to complete and select more cells to generate outputs.

Getting started

Admins: To access Gemini in the side panel of Workspace apps, users need to have smart features and personalization turned on. Admins can turn on default personalization setting for their users in the Admin console.
End users: You can access Gemini for Sheets in the side panel by clicking on “Ask Gemini” (spark button) in the top right corner of Sheets. Visit the Help Center to learn more about using the AI function in Google Sheets and collaborating with Gemini in Sheets.

Changes to "Who can manage" and "Who can view" members in Google Groups starting September 15, 2025

What's changingThere are upcoming changes to permissions in Google Groups which will be implemented starting September 15, 2025.

Currently, Google Groups has three roles: owner, manager, and member. Associated permissions for these roles, like Who can manage members and Who can view members can be configured in a group's settings. Additional group members can be assigned these permissions using custom roles. For example a group could have “who can manage members” set to “group owners” but then configure a custom role, add members to it, and add the custom role to “who can manage members.”
To reduce complexity and increase consistency across Workspace products, the following will no longer be supported in Groups:

Custom roles for Who can manage members and Who can view members
The ability to allow the Entire organization to manage members

The timeline for this change is as follows:Starting September 15, 2025, users will no longer be able to:

Add new custom roles for Who can manage members and Who can view members
Set Who can manage members to Entire organization

Starting January 5, 2026:

If a group has custom roles configured for Who can manage members and Who can view members, those custom roles will no longer apply
If a group has Who can manage members set to Entire organization, that setting will be updated to all members

Admins or end users can reassign users in custom roles in impacted groups to the default role that best matches their activity within the group. For example, if a group has Who can manage members set to owners and also has a custom role with three members in it, consider these options:

Recommended: Expand the setting for Who can manage members to owners and managers and add those three users as managers
Change the role of those three members to owners
Expand the capability to manage members to all group members

We also recommend setting Who can view members to Entire Organization to make collaboration seamless across Workspace, though if the group requires additional privacy, choose Group members.

Getting started

Admins: Admins of affected customers will receive more information via email, including a list of impacted Groups, to help their users navigate this change. Visit the Help Center for more information on the custom roles changes coming to Groups.

Google Classroom now supports exporting grades and importing data with STLink SIS

What’s changingGoogle Classroom teachers can now export and import select information via the new integration with Bubblecon STLink, a South Korean third-party student information system (SIS) that provides an innovative edtech platform. The integration between 'STlink service' and Google Classroom leverages the OneRoster standard by 1EdTech.
Once an admin establishes a connection between STLink and Classroom, teachers will be able to export grades from Classroom to STLink. Teachers can also import useful information, such as student rosters, co-teachers, grading periods, and grading categories from STLink into Classroom.
Getting started

Admins: To enable the feature, go to http://classroom.google.com/admin > next to “Select your SIS,” click the Down arrow > select “STLink” > “Connect to Google.” Under “SIS Setup, click “Connect” > enter the OAuth credentials. Visit the Help Center to learn more about connecting your Classroom to your SIS.
End users:

If your admin has connected to your SIS:

Export grades by going to classroom.google.com > select the class > “Grades” > “SIS export.”
Import grading categories by going to classroom.google.com > select the class > Settings > “Grading Categories” > “Import from SIS.”
Import grading periods by going to classroom.google.com > select the class > Settings > “Grading Periods” > “Import from SIS.”
Import student rosters by going to the People tab > “Invite Students” > “Import from SIS”.

Adding granular control options for who can respond to existing Google Forms

What’s changingLast year, we introduced a feature that gives Google Forms creators more granular control over who can respond to their newly created forms via sharing settings. Specifically, form creators can limit response access to specific users, groups, or target audiences—similar to how file owners can restrict the sharing of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides or Sites in Drive.
In addition to being available on newly created forms, we’re excited to announce that starting today this option is now available on existing forms. As a result, form creators can upgrade existing or old forms to have more granular controls over who can respond to them.

Why you’d use it This feature is useful in any scenario where you’d like to control who can respond to a form. For example, business leaders can better collect feedback from specific organizational units and prevent the form from being responded to by other teams or organization units. Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
End users:

Form creators must publish their form to enable responders to view the form or submit a response.
Form creators can see who has access to the form and share response access to specific users, groups, or target audiences.

What’s changing Beginning today, you can now access log events for the new data migration service in the audit and investigation tool and the security investigation tool. You can search across a variety of attributes including:

Who started a migration
What data is being migrated
When the migration was set up or executed, and more.

Log events give admins clear insight into data migration activities in their organization, providing insights into who initiated the migration, the type of data involved, the migration progress, and even allows for proactive issue triaging and resolution.

For Google Workspace customers with access to the security investigation tool, you can find more information on each migrated object, troubleshoot issues, create custom rules, and more. And for select Google Workspace customers, log events can be exported to BigQuery for further analysis and custom reporting. See below for more information on availability.

Create a Google Vid from Google Slides

What’s changingAt Google I/O, we introduced the ability to turn existing Google Slides content into engaging videos using Google Vids. Today, we’re starting to roll out the first iteration of this new experience for Vids customers.
When creating a new video in Vids, you’ll now see an option to “Import Slides”. From there, you can select the Slides presentation you'd like to use, and choose the specific slides you want to import. Vids will then create scenes using the text, images, and elements from each slide and you can make additional edits, such as adding animations to your objects or generating AI video clips with Veo 3.

Getting started

Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
End users:

When creating a new Vid, access this feature by selecting the Import Slides option.
For existing Vids, you can access this feature by going to the File menu > Import slides.

What’s changingFollowing last year's announcement of form creators being able to limit Google Form response access to specific users, groups, or target audiences, we’re introducing granular admin controls for form responses.
Specifically, admins can now independently control two distinct settings:

Whether users in their domain can respond to forms created externally.
Whether users in their domain can share forms with external recipients.

This new setting may help minimize data exfiltration risks by enabling admins to implement specific security measures for Forms, independent of existing Google Drive sharing restrictions.
Getting started

Admins:

To control whether users in the domain are permitted to respond to forms created outside of the domain, go to the Admin console > Drive and Docs settings > “Form responses” > “Allow users in [your organization] to submit responses to forms from users or shared drives. outside of [your organization], even if receiving external files isn't allowed.”

If ON, users in the domain will continue to be able to respond to external forms.
If OFF, the admin setting to control whether external Drive documents can be shared into the domain will apply to Forms and form responders in your domain could be blocked from responding to external forms

What’s changing You can now customize the styling of captions in Google Meet, including the font size, font type, color, and background color. This allows for the captions to be customized in a way that works best for you.

You can customize captions during the meeting by hovering over them or by going to Settings > Captions > Customize your captions. Your settings will persist across your meetings and can be changed at any time.

Mitigating prompt injection attacks with a layered defense strategy

This week, we shared more details on how we protect Gemini and mitigate threats from malicious actors utilizing indirect prompt injection attacks to exfiltrate user data or execute other rogue actions. Google takes a layered security approach, with security measures designed for each stage of the prompt lifecycle. From Gemini 2.5 model hardening, to purpose-built machine learning (ML) models detecting malicious instructions, to system-level safeguards, we are meaningfully elevating the difficulty, expense, and complexity faced by an attacker.

Our model training with adversarial data significantly enhanced our defenses against indirect prompt injection attacks in Gemini 2.5 models. This inherent model resilience is augmented with additional defenses that we built directly into Gemini, including:

Prompt injection content classifiers
Security thought reinforcement
Markdown sanitization and suspicious URL redaction
User confirmation framework
End-user security mitigation notifications

This layered approach to our security strategy strengthens the overall security framework for Gemini – throughout the prompt lifecycle and across diverse attack techniques.

Generate fully editable charts using Gemini in Google Sheets

Earlier this year, we introduced the ability for Gemini to provide insights and generate charts based on your data in Google Sheets. At that time, the generated charts could only be inserted as static images over cells in a spreadsheet. What’s changing Last year, we introduced Comeen for Google Chat, a third-party app that helps users effortlessly manage workplace resources by enabling them to confirm or release meeting rooms and desks via real-time notifications within Google Chat. Today, we’re excited to announce the next evolution of the Comeen app: the Workplace AI Agent. This powerful assistant uses generative AI to help users complete key workplace actions using natural language. From bookings to workplace knowledge, everything happens in seconds through simple prompts. For example, users can:

Book workplace resources (workstations, meeting rooms). By asking the Comeen app to book a space, it will find the most suitable resource based on your building, capacity needs, and preferences. For example, you can type:

“Book a desk for tomorrow”
“Book a desk with a dual screen”
“Book a room at 2pm for 8 people with a Google Meet Hardware”

Answer workplace or building-related questions. When you ask about your workspace or colleagues, you will get contextual answers tailored to your organization’s configuration and your individual context. For example, you can ask:

“Which rooms are available now?”
“Is Room New York free tomorrow at 3pm?”
“Where can I print on the 3rd floor?”

End users will need a Comeen license to use this app, and can also search for the app using the plus button menu next to the Chat compose box.

What’s changingStarting today, you can use companion mode on Apple iPads & Android tablets and foldable devices. Companion mode is a quick, light-weight way to participate in meetings without opening a laptop. This can be particularly useful in meeting spaces where room for a laptop is limited, or as an easy, discreet way to participate during large in-person meetings, such as all hands or town halls.
Specifically, you can use companion mode to:

Check-in to the room to be identified by name.
Share an emoji reaction without interrupting the speaker.
Raise your hand to indicate that you’d like to speak.
Turn on captions to view subtitles as everyone speaks during a meeting.
Exchange chat messages with other meeting participants.
View and zoom in on presented content to easily follow along with the presenter on your own device.
Use Meet in the split screen view, helping you multitask.

Check-in to the room to be identified by name.

Share an emoji reaction without interrupting the speaker
